SIEM REAP – Siem Reap authorities have launched the first emergency call service in the popular Pub Street area to increase public safety.
The audio and video equipment is linked directly to police and operates 24 hours daily.
Provincial Police Deputy Commissioner Long Mensoyaly said it will help local citizens and tourists report incidents such as fires and medical emergencies and to call for assistance for the elderly. Callers can also report crimes and accidents in the area.
Users need to press a panic alarm (red circle button of the machine) at the bottom of the police badge on the equipment.
The first machine has been installed to test its effectiveness opposite Jungle Burger Sports Bar and Bistro on Sok San Road. It has been installed with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Mensoyaly said provincial authorities plan to request more machines from donor partners to meet the main goal of making Siem Reap safer.
He also called on the public to use it responsibly and take care of the machine.
Pub Street is popular for international tourists and locals. It is famous for its colorful lights and lively musical entertainment, offering a leisure atmosphere for visitors who have already explored Angkor Park.
